Inspired by the events of the Edgecumbe flood in 2017, the largest animal rescue in New Zealand history, Animal Evac New Zealand was co-founded by former Wellington SPCA Chief Executive Officer Steve Glassey to ensure no animals would be left behind in future disasters. Dozens of animals died unnecessarily, due to a lack of capacity and preparedness for animals in civil defence arrangements.
As such a fledging charitable trust, we welcome gifts of any size to help our work. Naming Animal Evac New Zealand Trust in your Will can help us advocate for better protection of animals during emergencies and ensure animals are rescued and cared for during disaster. We are New Zealand’s only dedicated animal disaster management charity, and are fully operated by volunteers. We prefer donations and bequests to be used for general purposes, however if you wish to tag your gift for a specific purpose we welcome you to contact us when drafting or revising your Will, or ensure a non-binding memorandum of wishes accompanies the Will outlining your non-binding thoughts and preferences, which we will endeavour to accommodate.
We also ask that you advise us in your wishes, whether you want any acknowledgement or publicity over your bequest as we prefer to tribute those who have been generous to our course and to public acknowledge your gift.
We recommend that you consult your lawyer or the Public Trust when updating your Will to ensure any alterations are legally correct. You can contact the NZ Law Society to help find a suitable lawyer, or contact specialist organisations such as Perpetual Guardian and the Public Trust. The following is only a guide and your lawyer may provide alternative wording.
